Panel: AI Jobs and the Economy – What It Means for Business and the Workforce

Joe Watkins previously worked as a Lecturer in Mathematics and STEM Public Engagement at the University of Kent, and has since moved into corporate training and coaching.

Joe holds a PhD in mathematics and previously worked as a Holgate Lecturer for the London Mathematical Society. He has a national profile in AI teacher CPD, delivering and evaluating professional development with the NCETM and Maths Hubs network.

Joe is also experienced in the apprenticeship sector, working as the AI Strategy and Solutions Lead for a large provider. He works for the largest apprenticeship assessment organisation as an assessor across several data programmes, and is the subject matter expert for both the Level 4 and Level 6 AI programmes.

He now runs ‘Grassroots Intelligence’, providing AI training and consultancy for schools, charities and mission-driven businesses. Current projects include work with the University of Derby, Simon Langton, Canterbury Academy, the Oasis charity and Kent Discovery Planet. He has created innovative technologies for L&D and social media which use AI to improve engagement, shown on his YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@EducAIteYourself
